Bio

Albin John Matus Jr., 64, of Sunnyvale, Texas, passed away Thursday, Jan. 17, 2013. Service will be 10 a.m., Tuesday, Jan. 22, at St. Michael's Catholic Church, 950 Trails Pkwy., Garland. Interment will be 9:15 a.m. Friday, Jan. 25, at Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery, Dallas, under the direction of New Hope Funeral Home, Sunnyvale. Albin John Matus, Jr. was born in Waco, Texas, to Albin John Matus, Sr. and Adele Kolar. He attended Waco schools and graduated from La Vega High School in 1967. He attended college at the University of Texas in Austin. From there, he enlisted in the military and was a veteran of the Vietnam War. Upon his return from the military, he worked for Central Freight Lines advancing from the warehouse, to a truck driver, and then later as a salesman. Being a salesman was his niche and claim to fame. He always said that he could sell ice to Eskimos. Albin moved on to Estes Freight where he recently completed his 12th year as an extraordinary salesman and mentor. Albin was known by many as a professional drummer with the Vrazels polka band, published musician, lover of kolaches, former Grand Knight of the West Council Knights of Columbus #2305, fisherman, bingo announcer at Christmas, and hider of trick Easter eggs. Albin enjoyed spending time and working at his Lucky M Ranch in Menlow, Texas. To his family he was a professional meat smoker who also mastered the art of burning Marcia's steak to a crisp just to her liking. Albin is preceded in death by his father, Albin John Matus, Sr. He is survived by his beloved wife of 18 years, Marcia Matus; sons, John Paul Matus and wife, Tracy, of West, Matthew Matus, of Sunnyvale, and James Michael Embrey and wife, Kerri, of Royce City; daughters, Pauline Bynum and husband, Mitch, of West, Deanna Cheyne and husband, Mark, of Forney, and Cynthia Kay Andrews and husband, Jason, of Sunnyvale; grandkids, Carter, Callan, Logan, Landon, Sophie, Julee, Kara, Shauna, Joshua, Kirsten, Austin, Madison; great-grandson Ethan; his mother, Adele; sister, Mary Ann Nors, Marsha Jo Gerik and husband Ronald, Melissa Reither and husband Charlie, and Monica Williamson and husband, Ken; brothers, Milton Matus and wife, Mary Jean, and Benedict Matus and wife, Kim; Albin numerous nieces and nephews, extended family, wonderful friends and co-workers, and his ball-fetching, rat killing, snake thrashing, golf cart riding dog, Chubak.
