Leo Cecava Passes Away Leo Cecava, a long time resident of the Lawrence community passed away Thursday March 11, at the Mary Lanning hospital in Hastings. He was 93 years old. Scripture services were held at 7:30 Sunday evening in Sacred Heart church. The Catholic Workmen Lodge said rosary following the services. Funeral services were held for Leo Cecava on Monday morning, March 15th at 10:30 a.m. at the Sacred Heart Catholic church, Lawrence, Nebraska. The Mass of the Ressurrection was celebrated by the Rev. Charles Gergen who also officiated at the burial services in St. Martin's Loucky cemetery west of Deweese. Altar boys at the Mass were Great grandsons, Jerry Chab, Brian and Rodney Thimesch and grandsons John and Brian Cecava. Jim Artz served as lector at the Mass. Tom Dolnicek led the singing and Jenni Pohlmeier was organist. Pallbearers were six grandsons, Eugene Cecava, Robert Thimesch, Dennis Hubl, Richard Cecava, Gregory Cecava and Ronald Wanek. Leo Cecava, son of Norbert and Josephine (Bednar) Cecava was born in Moravia, Czechoslovakia on November 11, 1888, and passed away at the Mary Lanning Hospital in Hastings, Nebraska, on March 11, 1982 at the age of 93 years and 4 months. He came to this country with his parents 1893 and lived most of his life in the Spring Ranch and Deweese communities until 1972 when he moved to Lawrence. On November 12 1913, he was married to Marie Hamersky and to this union were born ten children. He was a kind and loving father with the welfare of his family always in mind. He was a good neighbor and a true friend to all who knew him. Leo was preceded in death by his wife, Marie, and his parents, a son Frank, and a daughter Martha, two granddaughters and 3 grandsons. Survivors are three sons, Victor, of Elsie, Ernest of York and Louis of Lincoln; five daughters Mrs. Mary Stech, of Friend, Mrs. Joe (Olga) Thimesch, of Garden Plain, Kansas, Mrs. Maurice (Lillian) Leonard, of Storm Lake, Iowa, Mrs. Frank (Rose) Wanek, of Omaha and Mrs. Charles (Frances) Hubl, of Lawrence, 37 grandchildren and 31 great-grandchildren, and one brother, Frank of Deweese.
