William Riley Goates, II was the son of William Riley Goates, Sr. and Lillie Elouise Boyett. He was first married to Elsie Mollie Poteet on July 10, 1912 in Waco, McLennan, Texas. They had six children: William Riley Goates, Jr. Jessie Louise Goates Detterman Charles Elbert "Charley" Goates Clarence Everett Goates Delma Ruth Goates Ursey Arthur Noel Goates After Elsie's death, he married Pnola Louise Rodgers McKinney on September 10, 1947.
