Atlantic News Telegraph October 15, 1923 Page 1 Joseph Eshelman, Cass Pioneer, Dies Saturday PASSES AWAY AT HOME OF SON LAST SATURDAY EVENING Came to County in 1875; Born in Pennsylvania in 1845; Long Time Resident Noble Township. Joseph Eshelman, resident of the county since 1875 and one of the best known men in its borders, died at 8:45 Saturday evening at the home of his son, George, a mile west of Noble Center church. Death was due to complications, the result of advanced age. Born in Pennsylvania Mr. Eshelman was born in Blair county, Pennsylvania on the 26th of July, 1845 and moved when a child in 1849 to Carroll county, Illinois, where he grew to manhood and was married there on the 30th of October, 1872 to Julia Ann Sarber. They came to Cass county in 1875 and settled on a homestead across the road from the place where deceased passed away. His wife died on the 12th of January, 1893 Four Children Deceased is survived by four children. The children are: Mrs. William Pelzer of Noble township, George Emery Eshelman of Noble township, Eugene Eshelman of Noble township, and Mrs. Albert Roberts of Atlantic. There are thirteen grandchildren, and one great-grandchild. He also leaves a brother, Chris Eshelman, at Bridgewater, and a sister, Mrs. Sarah Kingery, of Seymour, Iowa. Funeral Tomorrow Funeral services will be held tomorrow afternoon at 1:30 at the Noble Center church, the Rev. J. M. Krafft officiating, and interment will be made in Noble Center cemetery.
