Bio

Elizabeth Stoner was born September 12, 1817 in Martinsburg, Blair County, Pennsylvania, the daughter of Abraham and Barbara Rhodes Stoner. She married Martin Eshelman in Martinsburg in 1838. They were the parents of 8 children. Their first six children, Eliza, Abraham, Joseph, John, Sarah, and David were born in Pennsylvania and their last two children, Christian and Nancy, were born in Carroll County, Illinois. Evangelical Visitor Friday, May 1, 1896 Page 15 ESHELMAN. Died, April 5, 1896, Elizabeth Eshelman, nee Stoner, aged 78 years, six months, and 23 days. She was born in Blair County, Pennsylvania, September 12, 1817. She was married to Martin Eshelman on the 11th of February, 1848. She moved with her husband to Carroll county, Illinois in 1852. She resided there until the spring of 1875, when she moved to Cass county, Iowa, where she resided until her death. Her husband preceded her to the spirit world 25 years. To this union were born seven children - four sons and three daughters, all of whom survive her. She was converted and joined the Brethren in Christ church in the year 1874, of which she was a consistent member until her death. Funeral services by Rev. Young, of the M. E. church, Griswold, Iowa. Her husband Martin died in Carroll County on November 11, 1871 and her son John died in Carroll County on September 18, 1877. By 1880 Elizabeth was living in Noble Township, Cass County, Iowa, keeping her own house. She died in Iowa on April 5, 1896 at the age of 78 and was buried in Noble Township.
