Edwin Charlie Smesny Sr., 80, of Mont Belvieu, was born September 1, 1927 in East Gate, Texas to Ludvik and Francise Smesny. He Joined the U.S. Army in 1947 and was stationed in Germany as a military policeman during World War II. He met June Stasney in 1948, and they were married November 5, 1949 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Crosby. After his military service, Edwin went to work at Armco Steel in 1949 and retired in 1984. After retirement, Edwin enjoyed making crafts with his wife, June. Edwin was also a member of several organizations in the area such as Catholic Life, SPJST and the Knights of Columbus. He is preceded in death by his parents , step mother Annie Smesny, sister Henrietta Hlavaty, Patty Jean Hlavaty Hartman, nephew Larry Hlavaty and brother Albert Smesny. Edwin is survived by his son Edwin "Bud" Smesny Jr. and wife Denise, daughter Kathleen Munsch and husband Thomas, daughter Charlene Dornak, grandchildren; Charla Smesny, Breck Barnhart and husband Josh, Ryan Neely, Austin Neely, Matthew Dornak, Daylan Dornak, brother Max Smesny and wife Georgie of Midlothian, sister Edith Jasek and husband Thomas of Grapeland, brother-in-law Jerome Hlavaty of Lolita, sister-in-law Malba Smesny and husband Robert of Crosby, brother-in-law Chester Stasney and wife Marie of Highlands, sister-in-law Mary Lou Stasney of Highalnds, sister-in-law Dolores Stasney of Crosby, sister-in-law Georgia Smesny of Katy as well as numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Pallbearers will be grandsons Ryan Neely, Austin Neely and Matthew Dornak, godsons; Dale Stasney, Aaron Smesny and Paul Stasney. Honorary Pallbearers will be Thomas Liebham, Robert Smesny, Albin Kulak, Josh Barnhart, Max Smesny, Chester Stasney, Thomas Jasek, John Garret and Jerome Hlavaty. A visitation for family and friends will be held Monday August 25, 2008 at Sterling-White Funeral Home from 5-8 with a Rosary at 7pm. A funeral mass will be held Tuesday August 26, 2008 3pm at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with interment following at Sterling-White Cemetery.
