Thomas Elton Lawlis was the first son of Alfred Stephen & Cora Lawlis, and the grandson of Peter Benton & Sarah (Rhodes) Lawlis of Arkansas. Elton had three brothers, Robert R.C., James Haskell, Edward Alfred, and one sister, Cora Mae (Rodgers). Elton's father, Alfred moved his family to Jones County, Texas in December of 1917. At the age of 16, Elton ran away from home and joined the Army. After his time in the Army, he spent his career as a supervisor for Bakers Bakery. Elton married Isa Peace and they had four daughters, Rosemary (Bradshaw), Nancy Carol (Pate), Mollie (Foss),and Pat(Ford).
