Fort Bend Herald, March 11, 2025: Dorothy Rosalie Kuban passed away on March 5, 2025 at her home surrounded by family at the age of 92. She was born July 11, 1932, in Sealy, Texas. A devoted mother and grandmother who took pride in her family, she met the love of her life and was married September 19, 1953. She and her husband owned and operated a grocery store for the first 10 years of her married life before selling the store and moving to Needville where Dorothy then became a homemaker to spend more time with her children. She also had a large garden and fruit trees where she always shared her crop with many family and friends. She butchered many chickens and made their own sausage for their family and friends. Dorothy was a big part of her grandchildren's lives, never turning down an invitation to babysit. She loved playing dominoes and poker with her family and friends and for years they would go to their deer lease in Columbus with "The Deer Lease Gang" where they enjoyed playing dominoes, poker, telling stories, and hunting. Dorothy also loved going camping with family in their RV. She enjoyed having a good dance party surrounded by family and friends and belonged to a dance club. Dorothy also enjoyed playing Bingo with her friends at the church. In her later years, Dorothy spent most of her time visiting with her children and grandchildren and she always felt so blessed to have her 2 children live next door to her. Most evenings she was ready to sit outside with whoever stopped by for a cold beer. And every morning she looked forward to receiving her brother's phone call for a long chat over coffee and her sister's evening phone call was always a time to discuss their day's activity. Her kindness and selflessness touched many lives and she will be deeply missed. She was a member of St. Paul's Presbyterian Church in Needville, Texas. She held memberships with a dance club, SPJST Lodge #71, VFW Post #3903, The American Legion Post #271, and RVOS #70 where she was very active, holding offices and volunteering for many events. Dorothy is preceded by her loving husband, Edward Kuban Sr.; parents, John Blinka and Rosalie (Kaspar) Blinka; brothers, Milton Blinka, Alvin Blinka, Johnny Blinka, and Jerry Blinka; sister, Evelyn Christ; and son-in-law, Timothy Todd . She is survived by her children, Edward Kuban, Jr. (Sharon) and Shirley Hlavaty (Jack); grandchildren, Blake Kuban (Krystal), Melissa Holik (Clifton), Amanda Raska (Chase), Matthew Todd (Amber) and Sage Hlavaty (Lauren); great-grandchildren, Shelby Kuban, Hailey Kuban, Kynlie Kuban, Karlie Kuban, Madisyn Holik, Callen Holik, Cash Raska, Emersyn Raska, Rowan Todd, Summer Hlavaty, Nick Wells, and Conner Wells; siblings, Willie Mae KuyKendall and Sidney Blinka; along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, and best friend, Bessie Janacek, for 72 years of friendship. Visitation will be held at 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 12, 2025, in the Davis-Greenlawn Funeral Home Chapel in Rosenberg. The service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, March 13, 2025, at Davis Greenlawn Funeral Home, with burial to follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park.
