Bio

Fort Bend Herald, January 18, 2017: Edward William Kuban, Sr passed away on January 15, 2017 at his home surrounded by his family at the age of 86. He was born November 19, 1930 in Needville, Texas. It was there that Edward met Dorothy Rosalie Blinka. They married and were blessed with each other's companionship for a remarkable 63 years. Edward worked in the oilfield business before having to leave to go serve in the U.S. Army during the Korean War where he earned 3 bronze medals. After the war, he worked for Gulf States Tubing for 8 years and then was an exporter for Lone Star Brewery for 22 years. Also during this time, he and his wife ran their own business in Pleak, Texas for 10 years. He moved his family to Needville after selling their business where he continued to work for Lone Star and also became an insurance agent for RVOS Insurance. He also took up custom hay baling, farming, and ranching. He showed a lot of pride one year for having the 1st bale of cotton for Fort Bend County. After retiring from Lone Star he still continued selling insurance and farming until full retirement. He was a member of St. Paul's Presbyterian Church in Needville, Texas. He held memberships with a dance club, the V.F.W. Post #3903, the American Legion Post #271, and S.P.J.S.T. Lodge #81, and RVOS #70 where he was very active, holding offices and volunteering for many events. Edward is survived by his loving wife, Dorothy and their 2 children: Edward Kuban, Jr. and wife Sharon and daughter, Shirley Hlavaty. Grandchildren, Blake Kuban, Melissa Kuban Holik and husband, Clifton, Amanda Todd Raska and husband, Chase, Matthew Todd and wife Amber, Sage Hlavaty and fiance', Lauren Heinecke; great grandchildren, Shelby Kuban, Hailey Kuban, Kynlie Kuban, Madisyn Holik, Callen Holik, Cash Raska, Emersyn Raska, and Rowan Todd; He is also survived by his sisters, Pauline Shrum and Jeanette Rosenbaum and husband, Wesley; along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, Robert Paul Kuban and Pauline (Fojtik) Kuban, and brother Robert Paul Kuban, Jr. and his son-in-law, Timothy Craig Todd. According to his family and close friends he was quite the "INVENTOR". Always coming up with an idea when nothing else would work. You could count on Edward to have his own idea, and it always worked. When moving to Needville, he had a large garden where he always shared his crop with many family and friends. He butchered his own chickens and made his own sausage for his family and so many others. He was very proud of his orange trees and of course enjoyed watching his grandchildren and great grandchildren pick them and giving so many away to family and friends. He enjoyed playing dominoes with his buddies and family, in fact he built his own dominoe building to host the events just about every Saturday. It always included a meal and a lot of good laughs. He also enjoyed hunting and setting fishing lines in the Brazos River, then coming home after a good days catch to host a Big Fish Fry. Edward loved dancing and was no stranger to wanting to give you a spin around the dance floor. He took pride in singing for his children and grandchildren while playing the guitar, accordion, and harmonica. He left a legacy of hard-work, the meaning and importance of family and giving back, pride in serving one's country, and the significance of the Czech heritage. Visitation will be held from 2:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m., Sunday, January 22, 2017 in the Chapel of Davis-Greenlawn Funeral Home in Rosenberg.
