Bio
JoAnn Vodehnal, 88, of Grand Island, Nebraska passed away Saturday, August 31, 2024 at the Central Nebraska Veterans Home in Kearney, Nebraska. Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m., with a vigil rosary at 7:00 p.m., Thursday, September 5, 2024 at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Grand Island. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, September 6, 2024 at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Grand Island. Father Robin Bashir will officiate. Interment will be held in Grand Island City Cemetery in Grand Island. JoAnn was born January 31, 1936 at Grand Island, Nebraska to Frank & Angela (Goodwin) Stauss. She grew up and attended school in Grand Island. She was united in marriage to Irvin "Vodie" Vodehnal on February 24, 1954 in Grand Island. To this union, eight children were born. She worked as a homemaker, raising their children. In later years, she worked various places in Grand Island. Vodie and JoAnn were married for 53 years. JoAnn was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church and a member of Alanon. She was a Champion Bingo player. JoAnn made numerous ceramics and entered them into the local fairs, receiving many ribbons for them from the Hall County Fair, Buffalo County Fair and the Nebraska State Fair. Her children and grandchildren meant everything to her. They kept her busy and she attended all of their activities and family get-togethers. JoAnn won the fishing contest this year at the Veterans Home. She was a friend to many of the residents and staff at the Veterans Home and she will be missed by everyone that knew her. She is survived by her children and spouses: Dennis & Wanda Vodehnal, Sherry Stueven, Danny and Sheri Vodehnal, Stan & Stephanie Vodehnal, Rod Vodehnal & significant other Pam, Cory & Krystal Vodehnal, Troy Vodehnal & significant other Kami; six grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; one great great-grandchild due to arrive in January; one brother, Wilbur Stauss; one sister-in-law, Carol Stauss. JoAnn is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Irvin "Vodie" Vodehnal, son Bruce Vodehnal and brothers and sisters.
