Speir Services Set In Gilmer GILMER - Services for John William Speir, 94, Route 3, Gilmer, father of a former Texas Department of Public Safety director, are set for 4 p.m. Wednesday in Croley Funeral Home chapel in Gilmer with the Rev. E.F. Cheshire officiating. Burial will be in Morris Cemetery. Mr. Speir died Tuesday at a Gilmer hospital. He was born Aug. 3, 1888, in Fairburn, Ga., and was a retired farmer and a member of Glade Creek Baptist Church. He lived in Upshur County most of his life. Survivors include two sons, J. Cosby Speir, Gilmer and Wilson E. "Pat" Speir, Austin; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. H.H. Price, Shreveport, La., and Mrs. Earl Oliver, Dallas. Pallbearers will be Larry Speir, Wayne Speir, Elwyn Speir, John Speir, Thomas Reeves and Craig Bridegam.
