Margaret Ellen Simmons Father ~ Joseph E. Simmons Sr. Mother ~ Martha Amanda Cowden Simmons Margaret Ellen Simmons married Matthias Ward on December 25, 1879 in Delta County, Texas. Their names appear on the Marriage Record as Matt Ward and Margaret E. Simmons. Married only a few months, the 1880 U.S. Census shows Mathias (age 62) and Ellen (age 38) with Thomas Ward (age 20) living with them. Thomas ~ born in 1859 ~ is Matthias' son with his first wife, Malinda, who died in 1878. The 1900 U.S. Census shows Matthias and Margaret married 20 years. As the couple married in late 1879, this would be correct. It is also indicated on the census that Margaret never had any children. As Matthias died in 1904, the U.S. Census for 1910 states that Margaret is a widow, who has her nephew ~ Joseph E. Simmons (age 32) ~ living with her.
