WELLINGTON - Kenneth Lee Maxwell died Wednesday, Oct. 18, 2000 in Wellington. He was 67 years of age at the time of his death. Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 20 at the Bowie Street Church of Christ in Wellington with Kevin Rhodes, pastor, and Eddie Littrell, officiating. Interment followed at the Quail Cemetery in Quail under the direction of Parkside Chapel Funeral Home of Hereford. Pallbearers were Troy Thompson, Ray Floyd, Danny Martin, Byron Bell, Jack Neeley, Elmer Keller, Barry Clancy, and Robert Powell. Honorary pallbearers were Oren Rogers, Joe Stewart, Johnny Barnett, Rusty Lee, Charles Skinner, John James, Jack Needham, Reece Bowen, George Barton, and Donald Dollar. Mr. Maxwell was born August 11, 1933 in Allison to John and Lela Maxwell. He later moved to Quail where he attended school and graduated in 1950. He married Flora LaDell Chandler on March 15, 1953 in Wellington. He lived in Hereford, Wellington, and Wellington, Kansas. Mr. Maxwell worked several years as a law enforcement officer. He served as highway patrolman for the Texas Department of Public Safety, Deputy Sheriff for Deaf Smith county, and Sheriff of Collingsworth county. He also worked in manufacturing and sales. He owned and operated the Wellington Transport Service. Mr. Maxwell served in the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict and in the U.S. Army National Guard. He coached Little League baseball in Hereford and Little League football in Wellington, KS. He was a member of the Bowie Street Church of Christ where he served as deacon. He was preceded in death by his mother, Lela Rankin Maxwell; his father, John Maxwell; one sister, Nita Baker; and one brother, Freddy Maxwell. Survivors include his wife, Flora LaDell of the home; two sons, Kenneth Maxwell Jr. of Boston, MA, and Randall Kent Maxwell and wife Ellen of Maysville, OK; two brothers, Dean Maxwell of Iowa Park and John Maxwell of San Jose, CA; three sisters, Helen Fires of Wellington, Glennis Shields of Amarillo, and Joyce Disharoon of Allen, OK; three grandchildren, Randie, Andrew, and Joseph Maxwell, all of Maysville, OK.
