Helen Fires July 31, 1924 - August 23, 2013 Helen Fires age 89 of Wellington died on Friday, August 23, 2013 in Lubbock. Services will be at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, August 25, 2013 at the First United Methodist Church with Dr. Alan Fires, pastor of Possum Kingdom Lake Ministries and Rev. Gene Weinette, pastor officiating. Burial will be in North Fairview Cemetery by Adams Funeral Home. Helen was born on July 31, 1924 in Wellington to John and Lela Rankin Maxwell. She married A.J. Fires on October 11, 1942 in Wellington. Helen had been a member of the First United Methodist Church for 60 years. She was a former Sunday school teacher. She was the last living charter member of the 1954 Study Club. She was a homemaker and an accomplished millineress. She is survived by her husband A.J. of Wellington; 3 sons Mark Fires of Amarillo, Alan Fires of Possum Kingdom Lake, and Dan Fires of Pampa; a brother Dean Maxwell of Iowa Park; 8 grandchildren Stacey Fires, Wiley Fires, Andy Fires, Jeff Fires, Amy Peck, Paula Maas, Crystal Gonzales, and Jake Fires; and 10 great grandchildren. Helen was preceded in death by 2 brothers Kenneth Maxwell and Fred Maxwell, and a sister Glynnis Shields. Survivors include her husband; three sons, Mark Fires of Amarillo, Alan Fires of Possum Kingdom Lake and Dan Fires of Pampa; a brother, Dean Maxwell of Iowa Park; eight grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
