Haskell, Texas - Marvin Letz, lifetime resident of Haskell and Stonewall counties, passed from this life to be with God on Friday, February 29, 2008. Services will be at 2:00 p.m. on Monday at the Haskell Church of Christ. Interment will be in Willow Cemetery in Haskell directed by Mansell - Smith Funeral Home of Knox City. Mr. Letz was born in Stonewall County on February 7, 1917, to Herman and Lizzie Letz of Old Glory, Texas. He lived on the family farm near Old Glory, and graduated from Old Glory High School as valedictorian. In the late 1930's, he attended barber training school in Fort Worth, and owned and operated Letz Barber Shop in Haskell for a few years. He also had a life-long career in farming in the Old Glory community. In the early 1950's, he began an additional career as a homebuilder and developed another business as a heating and air conditioning specialist. He owned Letz Builders Supply in Haskell until his retirement in 2002. On January 22, 1939, Mr. Letz married Ruby Lee Hisey of Haskell. Prior to her death in 1999, Mr. and Mrs. Letz celebrated 60 years of marriage. Mr. Letz was preceded in death by his parents Herman and Lizzie Letz and two sons Marvin Lynn and Dale. Mr. Letz is survived by his other children: Marlene Denton and her husband, Kent of Garland, Texas, Sandra Parker and her husband, Mike of Norman, Oklahoma, and Fred Letz and his wife, Linda of Colleyville, Texas; seven grandchildren, Todd Denton, Chad Denton, Caryllee Cheatham, Micalynn Barker, Ryan Letz, Dana Letz, and Eric Letz; and eight great-grandchildren, Davis Denton, Reed Denton, Boone Denton, Alayne Denton, Grant Denton, Claire Denton, Parker Cheatham, Lisanne Cheatham, and Brady Letz. Mr. Letz was a member of the Haskell Church of Christ for more than 50 years. He was also active in many civic activities in both communities. Obituary from Abilene Reporter News
