Dallas Hodges was the son of James George Hodges and Margarett Hodges. "ANCESTORS AND DESCENDANTS GRAYSON COUNTY, TEXAS p. 290: JAMES G. HODGES James G. Hodges, who was born in Lincoln County, Tennessee, January 22, 1815, later moved to McNairy County. He and his wife had several children including Dallas, who was born in McNairy County January 20, 1846. Dallas became a law official in the northern part of Grayson County. That area had not yet recovered from the Civil War and the Reconstruction. Even though the Reconstruction period ended in 1873, border problems continued to brew. Bribery and feuding were prevalent, and Indian atrocities were common. Many people paid not attention to law and order. Many people lost their lives; Dallas Hodges was one of those persons. He was killed in gordonville May 5, 1881, by two desperadoes. Dallas' wife was left alone with seven children, and another was born six months later and she raised all of them. She died at the age of seventy-one and is buried beside Dallas in the old church yard cemetery where most of the Hodges family are buried. ...."
