Bio
Billie Frances Vaughn Parten, known as Granny Tex to her grandchildren, went to be with her Lord in heaven on Monday February 11, 2008. At 83, she lived a wonderful life. Services will be held at 3:00 p.m. Friday, February 15, 2008, at Ash Creek Baptist Church in Azle, TX. Graveside service will be at 3:00 p.m. Saturday, February 16, 2008, at Hollene Cemetery, Hollene, NM. In lieu of flowers, Billie desired contributions be made to the Shelley Cleveland Memorial Scholarship Fund, Box 371, Albany, TX 76430. Billie was born on September 29, 1924, to Windsor and Ina Lacewell in Tulia, TX. She graduated from high school at Rosedale, NM near her parent's home. She attended West Texas State University in Canyon, TX before marrying Richard Bryan Vaughn on March 15, 1946, in Olton, TX. They lived near Hollene, NM and had three daughters. After Mr. Vaughn's death, she married Roy O. Parten on May 31, 1979, in Hereford, TX. They lived in Hereford, TX for 27 years before moving to Parker County in 2005. She was a member of Ash Creek Baptist Church in Azle, TX. Her delights were her family and many friends. She enjoyed painting and quilting. She gave of herself every day with a loving heart, teaching everyone that giving brought back joy. She will be missed by all who knew her. Billie Parten was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Richard Vaughn; daughter, Shelley Cleveland; brothers, Boone Lacewell, Dale Lacewell, Rorex Lacewell; and sisters, Inez Terrell, and Mardee Grissom Wood. Billie is survived by husband, Roy O. Parten of Azle, TX; sister, Ruddene Pulliam Crowley of Farwell, NM; brother, Windsor Lacewell, of Ruiodoso Downs, NM; daughters, Connie Gragg and husband Ted of Conway, SC, Vicki Vanagas and husband, Tony of Azle, TX; son in law, David Cleveland of Albany, NY; step-daughter, Cindy Gray and husband Scott, of Garland, TX; step-sons, Rob Parten and wife LuAnn, of Chaparral, NM, and Roland Parten and wife Edith, of Montgomery, AL; grandchildren, Holly Sasser, Wendy Belcner, Jeromy Range, Jacob Cleveland, Lacey Cleveland, Jonathan Gray, Crystin Gray, Signa Wetwiska, Roy Rhyne, Willie Johnson; Seven great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
