Bio

James Marlin "Shorty" Hogue was born August 27, 1913. He was the fourth son of nine children born to James Hirum and Emily Delura Culpepper Hogue. He spent his childhood years on the farm. On February 27, 1935 he married Ila Bea "Bernice" Freeman. Their children were Lenora Emily, Nelda Jean, and Marlin Ray. He divorced Ila Bee and later married Linnie Ethel Chilcoat Barham. Linne was sister to Shorty's brother's (C.J.) wife Mayme. They had one child, Randy Dale. Linnie died giving birth to Randy. Because Shorty was an alcoholic, unable to care for his son, Randy was adopted right after his birth by Linnie's cousin. Shorty was a paint contractor his entire life. He lived in the Dallas, Texas area most of his adult life. He married a final time to Carrie Sanders and he remained married to her until his death. They moved to Athens, Texas where he died in 1976. He is buried in Payne Cemetery in Henderson County, Texas.
