Bio

Mr. Arthur L. Mitchell, age 87, passed away at his home at Overbrook, Okla., on Saturday, March 19, 2022. Funeral services will be held at The Chapel of Griffin~Hillcrest of Ardmore, Okla. Interment will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park, Ardmore. Arthur was born on October 6, 1934, in Big Canyon, Oklahoma, the son of Wilson Mitchell and Laura (Hudson) Mitchell. He enlisted in the U.S. Army and, after serving his country, was honorably discharged. Mr. Mitchell married the love of his life, Miss Naomi R. Clark, on August 9, 1957, and devoted his life to her, sharing sixty-one years together, until her passing in 2018. Arthur worked for the City of Ardmore and Beautification Department for many years before retiring. His faith was Pentecostal and he attended the Christ Tabernacle Pentecostal Church in Marietta, Okla., until his health declined and he could no longer attend services. Arthur liked watching TV, westerns, playing dominoes, hunting, fishing on his farm, and gardening. He loved playing his harmonica at Church. Arthur was a man full of life and loved making people laugh and smile. He enjoyed having get-togethers with family and friends at the farm for his big "famous" fish frys. Arthur loved his son, family and friends, and his Lord Jesus Christ unconditionally and will be missed by all who knew and loved him. He was preceded in death by his wife, Naomi, his parents, siblings: Paul Mitchell, Louise Smith, Chelsey Mitchell, Harold Mitchell, and Donald Mitchell. Our heartfelt thanks to the services of Cross Timbers Hospice of Ardmore whose capable nurses, staff, and Team 7 gave stellar support and direction in our time of need. Words cannot express our gratitude to Janet for her incredible loving care, devotion, and friendship for Arthur over 4 years and whom he loved dearly. A celebration of his life with friends and family at his home of 52 years will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Arthur's honor to Cross Timbers Hospice, at 207 C Street NW, Ardmore, OK 73401.
