Clovis Henry Boren November 13, 1935 ~ March 6, 2022 On Saturday, March 6, 2022 a light was dimmed in the hearts of family, friends and community with the loss of Clovis Henry Boren. A generous and loving man, Clovis was a man of strong conviction, values, and integrity who loved his family, cherished his friends and left this world a better place because of his selfless sense of giving. Clovis was born on November 13, 1935 in Kirkland, Texas to Charles and Nora Boren. He was the eighth of 10 children. During times of hardship his family relocated from Dumas to Kress. Valuing the importance of an education, Clovis stayed behind in Dumas with no family, no money and found refuge in the four walls of a boxcar. Determined to survive, Clovis was hired as a taxi driver at the mercy of the County Sheriff and Chief of Police. Winning the hearts of the locals, he was given a loan of $110 to return to classes in the public school system. He spent the remaining years of his high school living in the bunkhouse of the Dumas Volunteer Fire Station. In 1954, Clovis was the first of his family to graduate from high school and awarded a football scholarship to Panhandle A&M in Goodwell, Oklahoma. In 1959, Clovis began an 18 year career with Phillips Petroleum. In 1959 he met and married the love of his life of 62 years, Leah Leigh Boren. Together they had five children, Brett, Bart, Leigh Ann, Loraleigh and Allison. The family moved to Borger in 1962. In 1974 a partnership was formed and Cal-T Oil company which he operated until his retirement in 2007. With a commitment to community Clovis dedicated numerous years to shaping the lives of many children as a coach in both boys and girls athletics. He was elected and served on the BISD School Board for six years. He served in the National Guard, Hospital Governing Board, the Hutchinson County Hospital Committee and Jail Committee. He was instrumental in the initiation and development of the Hutchinson Country Oil Patch Extravaganza (HOPE) in 1988 for the American Cancer Society. Clovis will be remembered by those who knew and loved him for his commitment and support of family, the value of friendships, his quick wit, his passion for hunting and fishing, and commitment to his beloved United States of America. He was a mentor to many in community, education, youth, and the energy sector. He is survived by his wife, Leah, their five children, 11 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. Arrangements will be made by Minton Chatwell Funeral Directors. Services will consist of a Rosary at 7:00 P.M., followed by a 7:30 P.M. Celebration of Life/Visitation at St. John's Catholic Church on Thursday, March 10, 2022. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Friday, March 11, 2022 at St. John's Catholic Church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to: St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
