Bio

Daniel Elias Marek, 88, of Austin passed away Tuesday, February 22, 2022 with his family at his side. Visitation will be at Providence Funeral Home in Taylor from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM on Sunday February, 27 with the Rosary starting at 5:00 PM. A celebration of life mass will be on Monday February 28 at 1:30 PM at St. Theresa Catholic Church in Austin followed by burial at Austin Memorial Park Cemetery in Austin. There will be a reception at St. Theresa Catholic Church immediately following. Daniel was the youngest of eleven siblings born to Vince Marek, Sr. and Amelia (Janak) Marek on October 29, 1933 in Granger, TX. The last of his generation, he was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, Andrew, ET "Sonny", Henry, and Vince "Jim", six sisters, Annie Mokry, Millie Pavlik, Victoria Roddy, Helen Veselka, Evelyn Klima and Alice Grieger. Daniel is survived by his wife of 38 years, Susan Marek, son, Troy Marek and his fiancé, Vicki Hanson, step-son Joshua Romberg and his wife Kim Romberg all of Austin, TX. Grandchildren, Trenton Marek attending The University of Texas at Austin, Trevor Marek attending The University of Arkansas, and James Romberg attending Anderson High School as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Daniel graduated from St. Mary's Catholic School in Taylor, served in the Korean War with the US Army, graduated from Sam Houston State University and worked at The Department of Treasury, Internal Revenue Service, Investigative Services, until his retirement. He was a member of St. Theresa Catholic Church, volunteered as a Court Appointed Special Advocate, was the President of the Reagan High School Booster Club, and a long-time member of Texas Society of Enrolled Agents. Daniel touched the lives of numerous family members and friends. He was well known by all of Troy's friends as "Big Dan". Pallbearers will be Lance Richter, Joshua Richter, Kelly Patrick, Scott Prinz, Chad Marek, Blake Marek and Brandon Marek. Honorary pallbearers are Jason Marek, Stephen Pavlik and Brian Poldrack. These young men will be representing all of the numerous great nieces and nephews of Uncle Dan, who cared so much for them. The family of Daniel would like to express their heartfelt thanks to the many friends and family that have reached out to offer their condolences.
