Bio

The Oil City Derrrick - Friday, October 13, 1967 James William Schoonover, 72, of Oil City, formerly of Henry's Bend, died yesterday morning in Grandview Convalescent Home. Prior to entering the home, he had been a patient at Veteran's Hospital in Erie, for four years. Mr. Schoonover served overseas during World War I. At one time, he operated a tire shop on East Front Street. Later he worked as a carpenter. Born in Oil City, on August , 1895, he was the son of William J. and Mary Schill Schoonover. Surviving are one brother, Orville Schoonover, of Oil City; and a sister, Mrs. John Hopwood, also of Oil City. Two brothers and a sister preceded him in death. The body is in Joseph Reinsel Funeral Home, where friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today. High Mass of Requiem will be celebrated in St. Stephen Church at 10 a.m. Saturday, with interment in Calvary Cemetery. Death certificate gives age as 72 years. Sister, Mrs. John (Eldelene) Hopwood, was informant. Buried October 14, 1967.
