The Franklin News-Herald - Monday, May 15, 1967 Eldon M. Talley, a former Oil City resident, and his wife, Marie, were killed at 3 p.m. Saturday in a car-train crash at a railroad crossing in Tickfaw, Louisiana. The Talleys resided at 1206 Race Street, New Orleans. Mr. Talley was a professor of history at St. Mary's Dominican College there. The car the Talleys were in was struck by an Illionis Central train. Tickfaw is located 40 miles northeast of New Orleans. His wife was the former Marie Schoonover, of Fryburg. Mr. Talley was born in Oil City, a son of Merton J. and Izora Myers Talley. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the European Theatre. He was a member of St. Theresa's Church in New Orleans. Surviving are two brothers, Kenneth Talley, of Reno, and Paul Talley, of Lancaster; three sisters, Miss Elizabeth Talley and Mrs. Walter (Helen) Grinder, both of Oil City, and Mrs. Ray (Ruth) Mitchum, of Seneca. Mrs. Talley was born at Venus, a daughter of William J. and Mary Lavina Schill Schoonover, and was educated in the Fryburg schools. She moved with her family to Oil City as a young girl. She, too, was a member of St. Theresa's Church in New Orlenas. She is survived by a sister, Mrs. J. A. Hopwood; and two brothers, James and Orville Schoonover, all of Oil City. Friends will be received in Charles A. Morrison Funeral Home beginning on Tuesday. High Requiem Mass will be sung at 10 a.m. Wednesday in St. Stephen Church. Talley, former local and area residents who were killed Saturday afternoon in a car-train accident in Tickfaw, Louisiana, near New Orleans. The Talleys resided at 1206 Race Street, New Orleans. Mr. Talley was a professor of history at St. Mary's Dominican College in New Orleans. Friends will be received any time this evening in Charles A. Morrison Funeral Home. Interment will be made in Calvary Cemetery.
