Dolores Cervenka Machu Volek, 77, passed away early Saturday morning, Sept. 6, 2008, at her home south of Taylor, Texas. She was born July 4, 1931 in Granger to William and Marie (Janak) Cervenka. She was married to Johnnie Daniel Machu Nov. 22, 1949 in Saints Cyril & Methodius Catholic Church in Granger. Dolores and Johnnie were happily married 35 years until his death on Oct. 3, 1986. On Aug. 31, 1991, she was married to Paul Milton Volek of Taylor. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church of Taylor, KJZT Lodge 18 of Granger, Catholic Life Insurance and St. Anne's Altar Society. She retired from the University of Texas at Austin Jan. 28, 1987 after eight years of service. Prior to that, she was employed at H-E-B in Taylor for 13 1/2 years. She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Marie Cervenka; her sisters, Mary Machu and husband Albert, Bertha Matula and husband Henry, Helen Lindemann and husband Woodrow; brothers, Albert Cervenka and wife Otillie, Bill Cervenka and wife Edna, Frank Cervenka and wife Betty, Joe Cervenka and wife Etoile, Louis Cervenka and Alfred Cervenka; and four nieces, Carolyn Cervenka Vorg, Evelyn Matula Vrana, Mary Lou Cervenka Carpenter and Betty Jean Schnell. She is survived by her husband, Paul Volek of Taylor; three children, Arlene Theresa Miller and husband Paul of Houston, Johnnie Leonard Machu and wife Marilyn of Taylor, and Patricia Marie Talasek and husband David of Rockdale; six grandchildren, Jason Ray Mikulencak and Syrissa Balusek of Taylor, Lucas Keith Mikulencak and Joshua Jared Mikulencak of Thrall, Matthew Ryan Miller and wife Anne of Houston, Sarah Elizabeth Miller and Stephen Koldyke of Dallas and David Paul Miller of Houston. She is also survived by Paul's children, Melvin Volek of Taylor, Danny and Anita Volek of Taylor; grandchildren, Travis and Kim Volek of Austin, Christie and Barry Meza of Taylor, Leigh Ann, Tyler, Ashlynn and Dayton Volek of Taylor; and three great-grandchildren, Sarah Isabel and Jayden Paul Meza of Taylor and Paul Kendall Volek of Austin. She is also survived by her sister, Otillie Lindemann of Johnson City; sisters-in-law, Sally Cervenka and Martha Cervenka of Granger, and numerous nieces and nephews. Rosary will be Tuesday, Sept. 9, at 7 p.m. at Condra Funeral Home in Taylor. Mass will be Wednesday, Sept. 10, at 10 a.m. at St. Cyril & Methodius Catholic Church in Granger with Msgr. Lonnie Urban and Fr. Joseph Nisari officiating. Burial will follow in the Machu Family Cemetery in Granger.
