Bio

Born the son of John Wesley Carroll (1815 – 1897) Huldah Smith Hearne Carroll (1821 – 1856). His mother died on the way to Louisiana on the families' Wagon Train trip. Stephen married in Chatham, Jackson Parish, La. in 1860 to Susan Celia Bullard (1844 – 1901). Their children were Sallie A. Carroll (1861 – 1887), Delula Alice Carroll (later Mathis 1865 – 1931), R. Louisa Carroll (1865 – 1880), Robert L. Carroll (1866 – ), (John Wesley Carroll (1869 – 1950), Martha V. Carroll (1871 – 1952), Martha Viola Mattie Carroll (1872 – 1952), Jacob R. Carroll (1873 – 1946), Stephen Hope Carroll (1876 – 1954), Charlotte Hulda Carroll (1881 – 1966), and Minnie May Carroll (1882 – 1937). [By Ronald Ellis Wade, ggg grandson of Stephen Glynn Carroll] Stephen enlisted in Company F (Yankee Routers), 14th Texas Infantry. Mustered in as Private on January 16, 1862 at Pittsburg, Texas for 12 months. Promoted to 3rd Corporal subsequent to October 31, 1862. October – December 1862 absent sick. Present or accounted for January – April 1863. Reduced to ranks prior to May 1863. Absent on furlough May – June 1863. Absent without leave July 1863 – February 1864. No further records. He fought in the Battle of Nashville and and the Battle of Yellow Bayou, Louisiana. Susan applied for and received a widow's pension (#04022) in Upshur COunty, Texas.
