Bio

Brayton Walter Bowman, 93, of Everett, passed away on December 2, 2020 at Homewood in Martinsburg. Brayton was born in Clearville, PA on February, 19 1927, a son of the late Walter Ray and Ura F (Means) Bowman. On September 23, 1945 at Scott Field Air Force Base, Belleville, Illinois by Chaplain list he married Regina Arlene (Mearkle) Bowman. She preceded him in death on March 25, 2016. He is survived by a son Gregory L. Bowman of Myrtle Beach, SC. Grandchildren: Stacey Whitmer, Scott Bowman, Sonya Sanders, Sean Bowman, Josie Gargerty, and Tyler Bowman. Great grandchildren: Shane Whitmer, Shelby Whitmer, Patrick Leon, and Brayton Bowman. Brother: Gerald Bowman married to Mary Lou, Perrysville, O.H. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by son Larry B. Bowman, daughters-in-law: Mary (Rogers) Bowman and Elizabeth (Shiflett) Bowman, Siblings: Floyd Bowman, Kenneth Bowman, Vera Cunard, Mildred Beegle, Ronnie Bowman, Ethel Ritchey, Arlene Goad, and Phoebe Husfelt. He was a 1944 graduate of Everett High School. After graduating high school, he went into the U.S. Air Force where he served as Corporal. After enlistment, he and his wife owned and operated the family farm in Clearville, along with being a salesman for Sollenberger Equipment in Everett. For many years he sold equipment, not only in Bedford County, but many surrounding counties. He also drove school bus for the Everett School District from 1956 – 2001. He was a member of The Everett Lions Club since 2001 and previously served as president. He served on the Everett School Board for six years. He was a member of Farm Home Administration and served for six years. He was a member of the Everett Senior Center, where he loved to spend his day socializing with many friends. He was also a member of The Everett United Methodist Church. A special thank you to Melody Bowman for the kind, extra care she gave to him in his last years. Thank you to Karen Everhart and her staff for making it possible for him to be at home, and thank you to Victoria House PCH at Springhouse Estates for taking good care of him in his last couple weeks. He never met a stranger, and was always willing to lend a hand to help. He left a lasting impression on everyone he met, and he will be greatly missed by all. A memorial service will be held at a later date with burial at Clearville Union Memorial Cemetery.
