Family Record that John was buried on the Scott Farm but moved to Fairview Cemetery after the Farm was sold in the 1930's He is buried in unmarked grave From Family Records of Unknown family member John Long Scott our great grandfather was born 1801 Tennessee and came to Missouri in 1821, he was a school teacher and surveyor also the first sheriff of Saline County, at that time the boundries of Saline were Lamine river on the west, and Springfield on the south. He went back to Tenn about 1824 and married Margaret Beatty and returned to Mo. bringing with then five saddle mares, they were six weeks making the journey. I spend two days with Uncle Marion Scott, he told me more about the Scotts than I had known before or since however Uncle Sim told us a lot when he spent two month at our home(Jan & Feb.)1910. I had long talks with Granny E. and learned alot from her.Uncle Marion said that in 1850 when he was sixteen years old his father sent him by horse back to the land officce in Jefferson City with 1050 ?? gold to purchase 1000 acres of land, he was two days going and two days coming back. Part of the town of Sweet Springs stands on it today. Sim is Simeon Scott b/ 1828 Saline Co Missouri. Marion is his brother Lucy Terry Wood-Harper John Long Scott married his 2nd wife Lucy Terry Wood Harper 24 March 1849 in Saline Co Missouri and they had two sons Isaac Leonard and Charles Perry Scott.
