The founder of the Scott family in Tennessee was Samuel Scott a native of North Carolina from which he moved over the mountains to Cumberland Kentucky, with his father Thomas Scott, and later came to Tennessee and was one of the early settlers in Morgan county He found the country a wilderness took up a great deal of land directly from the government and for his day and generation was one of the wealthiest men in the eastern part of the state. In 1824 Samuel Scott purchased the land previously belonging to William Wall. He also entered a large tract of land on the Emory River, above the town, He was the father of Thomas, John, Samuel, Russell and Julian F. Lydia Scott and Thomas Scott were Administrators of Samuel Scott's Will Russell Scott, Julian F. Scott, Elisha Cowart and Wife, John L. Scott Samuel Scott, Elijah Hall and Wife heirs of Samuel Scott Deceased.
