Romney was born in Gaston, Sumter Co, AL to George Frank and Martha Clementine "Mattie" Reaves Griffith. His parents are buried in Reeves Chapel Cemetery in Pittsburg, TX. By 1900, the family was in Camp Co, TX. His parents are buried in Reeves Chapel Cemetery near Pittsburg in Camp County. He shares a stone with his wife, Maggie Lou Laney Griffith. They married 16 May 1908, probably in Camp County where they are listed in the 1910 census. Their daughters, Mildred Louise Griffith Boyer and Dorothy Lou Griffith Gentry, are also buried in Garden of Memories. Their daughter, Hazel Louise Griffith Hamby, is buried in Ferguson Cemetery. Their daughter, Faylene "Faye" Griffith Honeycutt, is buried in Roselawn Park. Their daughter, Christine Griffith Dancer, is buried in Pilgrim Cemetery. OBITUARY: Palestine (TX) Herald-Press, Friday, 1 March 1974: R. C. Griffith, 88, of Route 2, Elkhart, died today at 3:45 a.m. in a local hospital following a long illness. Funeral services will be held Sunday at 3 p.m. in Hassell & Foster Chapel with the Rev. David E. Hill and the Rev. U. Van Sickle officiating. Burial will be in Garden of Memories. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers. Mr. Griffith was born Sept. 23, 1884, in Gaston, Ala. He moved from Pittsburg, Tex. To the Lone Pine Community about 38 years ago, and later moved to Elkhart. He was a retired carpenter. Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Maggie Lou Laney Griffith of Elkhart; two sons, Earl Griffith of Normangee and Albert Griffith of Angleton; five daughters, Mrs. Russell (Mildred) Boyer, Mrs. Jessie (Hazel) Hamby and Mrs. Edward (Christine) Dancer, all of Elkhart, Mrs. Wren Honeycutt of Palestine and Mrs. Edward C. (Dorothy) Gentry of Lufkin; two brothers, R. F. Griffith of Odessa and C. C. Griffith of Frankston; a sister, Mrs. Mae Cooke of Gilmer; 19 grandchildren, five step-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. The family will receive condolence calls at the home of Mrs. Jessie Hamby, Route 2, Elkhart.
