Pvt. Sladek survived the torpedoing & sinking of the troopship "Tuscania" on 5 February 1918 in the North Channel between Scotland & Ireland by German submarine UB-77. He was listed as Willie A. Sladek on the passenger roster. He returned from World War I, listed as William A. Sladek, aboard the "Prinz Friedrich Wilhelm" in April 1919 as a private in Co. L, 165th Infantry. On the "Tuscania," he listed his father, Henry Sladek, of Route 7, Taylor, Texas, as his next-of-kin. On the return voyage, his father's address was just Taylor, Texas. Contributor: Islay (48898746)
