Bio
Jim Sladek, age 84, of Royse City, TX, passed away May 1, 2016. He was born May 2, 1931, in Thorndale, TX, to William Arnold and Edith Barton Sladek. After her death in 1936, Jim was raised by his loving stepmother, Neva. Jim retired from Otis Elevator in 1987, where he was a machine specialist. He was a member of the Royse City Mason Lodge Order of the Eastern Star, the Tri-County Honor Guard and a deacon at First Baptist Church of Royse City. Jim is survived by his loving wife of 61 years: Bernice Sladek of Royse City; daughters: Tammy Sewell and husband Stephen of San Antonio, TX, and Donna McGinnis of Killeen, TX; grandchildren: Lauren Sewell of San Antonio, Matthew Sewell and wife Crystal of Pleasanton, TX, Garrett McGinnis and wife Andrea of Broomfield, CO, and Meagan McGinnis and fiancé Greg Hisscock of Aurora, CO. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers: Bill Sladek and Winfred Sladek; and sisters: Carol Raper and Dorothy Zelinsky [sic/Zielinski, half-sister] Funeral services will be held 11:30am Thursday, May 5, 2016, at First Baptist Church in Royse City, 900 Pullen St., with Pastor Jeff Hayes and Pastor Les Joslin officiating. The family will receive friends at the church prior to the service beginning at 10:00am. Interment will follow at Royse City Cemetery, 928 Cemetery Rd. His obituary indicates he was born in Thorndale TX. Other records list his birth in Taylor, Williamson County, Texas. Jim had a half-sister, Dorothy Bernice Sladek (1921-2000), by his father's first marriage to Alice Elizabeth Leonard. Dorothy married Edward Zielinski. On 15 January 1955 in Hunt County, Texas, Jim married Bernice Fisher.
