In Memoriam JAMES VERNON "PETE" CHUMLEY July 26, 1939 ~ September 14, 2019 James Vernon “Pete” Chumley was born July 26, 1939 in Dallas, TX, the son of Daniel Huff Chumley and Mable Ina (Chastain) Chumley. He departed this life on September 14, 2019 at the age of 80 years, 1 month and 19 days. Pete was raised in Hugo and moved to Lubbock, TX after his marriage to Claudia Key on May 17, 1956. They moved back to Hugo in 1968 where they raised their eight children. Pete was a carpenter by trade. He loved working in the garden, planting flowers, playing cards, reading western books and going to the casino with his wife. Most of all he loved his children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and his great great grandson. For the past thirteen years, he and his wife Claudia had a special bond with three of their great grandchildren, Kristian, Hannah and Mikki who stayed with them every week. This was something he always looked forward to. Pete was preceded in death by his parents, one son, Troy Chumley, five sisters, Reba Chumley, Ima Jean McBride, Vinita Miller, Donie Tom, and Fern Bomer; one brother, Troy Wayne Chumley and four grandchildren. Survivors include: his wife, Claudia Chumley; Four sons, Jeff “Bunky” Chumley of Hugo, Gene Chumley of Hugo, James Robert Chumley of Antlers, OK and Joe Chumley of Conners, GA; Three daughters, Pam Littrell of Jonesville, VA, Mandy Caldwell of Hugo, OK, and Tammy Cloud of Mesquite, TX; eighty eight grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren; One brother, Don Chumley of Durant; two sisters, Florine Gordon of Grant, OK and Juanita Little of Michigan along with many other relatives and friends.
