Margaret Turner Smith was born in 1840 in Arkansas, as her parents, Adam Turner and Letitia Hunter Turner, moved their family from Lincoln County, Missouri to Lee and Bastrop Counties, Texas. Margaret married Jerome Smith 30 May 1857 in Burleson County, Texas. They were the parents of six children: James, Alonzo Claud, Ann Zillah, Josiah Juan, Eugene Sue, and Addie Augusta.
