Bio

Joe Hegemann, 72, of Howells died Saturday, February 5, 2011, at Parkview Home in Dodge where he had been a resident for the past three years. He was born March 24, 1938, in Howells to Theodore and Dorthea (Pieper) Hegemann. He attended Howells Catholic Schools, graduated from Howells High School in 1956 and attended Northeast Technical College in Norfolk. He married JoAnn Svoboda on June 10, 1961, in Schuyler. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and was a Past Grand Knight. He had served on the Howells Community Catholic School Board, Sts. Peter and Paul Cemetery Board and the Rural Fire Department Board. Survivors include: his wife, JoAnn of Howells; six children, Bernard (Theresa) Hegemann of Clarkson, Connie Rolf of Dodge, David (Brenda) Hegemann of Howells, Kevin (Lisa) Hegemann of Howells, Dennis (Stacey) Hegemann of Farmington, Minn., and Brian (Shawn) Hegemann of Howells; two brothers, Robert (Alice) Hegemann of Fremont and Victor (Mary Ann) Hegemann of Richardson, Texas; four sisters, Kathleen Baumert of Clarkson, Arlene (Reuben) Doerneman of Howells, Sister Myriam Hegemann of Milwaukee and Marie Kruger of Omaha; and 18 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by three brothers, three sisters and a sister. Visitation is at Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church 2-8 p.m.Tuesday, with a Rosary at 3 p.m. and 7 p.m. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the church with burial in the parish cemetery. Svoboda Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
