Bio

The Evening Republican Columbus, Indiana Monday, Aug. 4, 1924 Fremont Davis, 67, one of the most widely known residents of the county passed away this morning at 9:30 o'clock at the family home on Twenty fifth street, his death following several months illness of a complication of diseases. Funeral services will be held Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Tabernacle Christian church. Burial in the School Section cemetery. Mr. Davis was born and reared and spent all his life in this county. He was the son of William Q. and Mrs. Elizabeth Jane Davis, pioneer settlers of the Azalia neighborhood, and was the youngest of four children. During his early life he assisted his father in farming, and followed that occupation for many years. Later he became superintendent of the water works in this city, and of late years he had engaged in the dairy business at which he was quite successful. During his early life Mr. Davis affiliated with the Friends church at Azalia, but later transferred his membership to the Christian church in which belief, he was faithful until death. Mr. Davis was married twice. On December 1, 1877 he was united in marriage to Alice Richardson, and to the union two children were born, Bonnie Davis, who passed away on May 5, 1902 and Mrs. Maggie Weller, now of Troy. O. The wife died February 17, 1904. On April 12, 1905, Mr. Davis was married to Mrs. Elizabeth M. Graves, who survives, as do also the one daughter, two step-sons, John Graves, of Newcastle. and Voris Graves, of Colorado, and two grand children. Mr. Davis was a man who had many friends and with them all he was regarded as sincere, honest, and a most hard working, upright man. He was always willing to help others and was liberal in his thoughts and charitable deeds. He was a prominent worker in his church and also in the Knights of Pythias lodge. Several months ago he began to fail in health, and in an effort to effect a cure he was in the county hospital here for some time. His condition improved slightly but after being removed to his home a few weeks ago, he grew worse and for several days past, the end had been expected momentarily.
