Bio

William H. Davis and Sarah Duncan were married Feb. 23, 1865, in Bartholomew Co., Indiana. The Evening Republican Columbus, Indiana Saturday, June 26, 1920 Funeral services for William H. Davis, formerly of this city, who died Thursday at his home in Indianapolis, will be held at the home in that city tomorrow morning at 10 o'clock, and burial will be made here in Garland Brook cemetery. Short services will held at the grave at 1 o'clock under the auspices pf the Knights of Pythias. The services will be private. Mr. Davis was 80 years old and resided in this city until eighteen years ago when he moved to Indianapolis. He was born in Sandcreek township and was a veteran of the civil war, having served from 1861 until 1864. He held the office of sergeant major in the George H. Thomas Post of G.A.R. and was president of the 22nd lndiana Regimental Reunion Association. He also was a member of the Knights or Pythias lodge of this city and of the Central Avenue Methodist church in Indianapolis. During his residence here, Mr. Davis and family resided at the corner of Third and Brown streets. His widow, Mrs. Sarah P. Duncan Davis, one son W.A. Davis, of Chicago, and four daughters, Mrs. F.E. Ray, of Shelbyville; Mrs. L. W. Heagy, of LaFeria, Tex.; Mrs. Charles Hamblen, of Indianapolis, and Mrs. B. F. Moore of this city; and one brother, Fremont Davis, of this city survive.
