Gilbert L. Stagg ALPINE—Funeral services for Gilbert L. Stagg, 30, Alpine, who died Feb 7 of gas suffocation in the Dutchman zinc mine in American Fork Canyon, will be conducted Tuesday at 2 p.m. in the Alpine L D S ward chapel by Orion J. Burgess, bishop of Alpine ward. Mr. Stagg was born March 6, 1915, in Pleasant Grove, a son of Mr. and Mrs. William Stagg. He attended elementary and high schools at Pleasant Grove and married Evelyn Whitby of Alpine in November, 1937, in the Salt Lake L D S temple. He was an elder in the L D S church. Mr. Stagg had been employed at the Salt Lake Arms plant, later working at the Geneva Steel plant at Provo. He had only worked at the Dutchman zinc mine for about two weeks at the time of his death. Survivors include his widow and a daughter, Barbara Anne, 5, Alpine; his parents, Pleasant Grove; five sisters, Mrs. Harvey Hansen, American Fork; Mrs. Tom Williams, Pleasant Grove; Mrs. Merrill Smith, Salt Lake City; Mrs. Sam Calder and Mrs. Dale Parker, Los Angeles, Cal.; two brothers, Robert Stagg and Richard Stagg, Pleasant Grove.
