Bio

Holmes, Emily Funeral for Emily Strawther Holmes, 75, of Call will be at 2 p.m. today at E. E. Stringer Funeral Home in Kirbyville with burial in Trout Creek Cemetery. She died Tuesday, April 23, 1985 at Newton County Hospital after an illness. A native of Buna, she lived in Call most of her life and was the retired operator of a grocery store in the Hartburg-Trout Creek Community area. Survivors include five step-daughters, Alberta Clerico, Betty Sue Kroger, and Helen Pericone, all of Louisiana and Alice Wagner of Houston and Verna Newman of Jasper; three sisters, Epsie Bean of Kirbyville, Agnes Russell and Bernice Berry, both of Call; two brothers, Gene Strawther and James Strawther, both of Call. Note: Was the second wife of Roy A. Holmes. No children were born to this union. Roy's first wife was Estella Wingate.
