Bio

Ernest A. Berger, 79, passed away at 9:34 a.m. Sunday in his residence. He was born in Tours, Texas on Nov. 28, 1927 to the late William John and Hilda (Hoelscher) Berger. He married Sandra L. Chalmers and she preceded him in death on Nov. 30, 2003. He retired from CPC after 34 years. He was a US Army veteran of the Korean War. Ernest was a member of American Legion Post 10, UAW Local 977, GM Sympathy Club and Amvets. Survivors include his children, Jeff Crocker, Texas, Patricia "Kay" (William) Durham, San Antonio, Texas, Ricky Thompson, Wabash, Larry (Mary) Thompson, Marion, Angela "Angie" (Terry) Bowman, Frankfort, Barb (David) Rhoads and Charlene Short, both of Salem, Mo.; daughter-in-law, Angie Thompson, Marion; brothers, James Berger, Kileen, Texas and Leander Berger, Tours, Texas; sisters, Sister Jacinta Berger and Tarcisia (Edward) Pavlicek, both of San Antonio, Texas and Shirley Svrcek, Waco, Texas; thirty-eight grandchildren; and nineteen great-grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by a son, Noel Thompson; a brother, Billy Berger; three grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. Services are at 10 a.m. Thursday in Needham-Storey-Wampner, North Chapel, 1341 N. Baldwin Ave., Marion, with the Rev. Terry Bishir officiating. Burial is in Estates of Serenity. Visitation is from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday in the funeral home. Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral Home (Obit amended to correct name spellings)
