Bio

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, January 13, 2017, at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Ord. Father John Kakkuzhiyil will officiate. Burial will be in the Ord Catholic Cemetery. Ord Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements. Freda Rose was born April 13, 1937, at Burwell, Nebraska to Clarence and Mary (Holecek) Conner. She was raised in Burwell and graduated from Burwell High School in 1954. After receiving Normal Training, Freda taught at Springdale County School in Valley County. On November 23, 1957, she was united in marriage to Eugene V. “Gene” Augustyn at Elyria, Nebraska. To this union five sons and three daughters were born. In their early years of marriage, the couple resided in small communities in central Nebraska. In 1965, they settled in Ord. Freda raised her family before going to work as a cook for the Ord Public Schools in 1984, until her retirement in 2004. Freda was the bookkeeper for Gene’s Electric and the couple owned and operated Augie’s Liquor Store in the 80’s. Freda was a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church and the Altar Society. She belonged to the VFW Auxiliary, card clubs and bowling leagues. She enjoyed gardening, canning and sewing baby blankets for her grandchildren. Survivors include five sons and daughters-in-law, Jim and Diana of Ord, John and Birdie of Kearney, Jerry and Debra of Lincoln, Jeff and Char of Olathe, Kansas and Jason and Jill of Midlothian, Texas; three daughters and sons-in-law, Becki and Cohen Hoppes of Lincoln, Vicki and Kyle Novosad of Castle Rock, Colorado and Crystal and Jeff Stuhr of Lincoln; 23 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Bo and Bonnie Conner and Elwin and Lucille all of Burwell; and two sisters and a brother-in-law, Patricia and Ron Watson of Ericson and Juanita Allen of Burwell. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Gene who passed away on December 30, 2015; an infant brother, LaVerne Conner; two brothers, Clarence Jr. “Sonny” and Edward Conner; and two sisters, Linda Anderson and Mary Pesek.
