Bio

ORD — Mary E. Pesek, 78, of Ord died Monday, Nov. 24, 2014, at the UNMC Clarkson Hospital in Omaha. Mrs. Pesek was cremated. A celebration of life will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Evangelical Free Church in Ord. Pastor Doug Olson will officiate. Inurnment will be a later date in the Ord Bohemian Cemetery. Ord Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements. Mary Elaine was born Jan. 16, 1936, at Burwell to Clarence C. and Mary (Holecek) Conner. She was raised on the farm in Garfield County, receiving her early education at Lone Star School and graduating from Burwell High School. Mary obtained a teaching certificate from Kearney State College and taught at various schools in the Burwell and Ord areas. On June 1, 1957, Mary was united in marriage to Eddie Pesek in Ord. The couple made their home in Ord where they owned and operated Eddie’s Pool Hall for more than 20 years. Mary also worked at the Veteran’s Club and Elk’s Lodge. After working for 22 years as a dispatcher for the Ord Police Department, Mary retired and continued to make her home in Ord. She was a member of the VFW Ladies and American Legion Auxiliary. She enjoyed baking, reading and embroidering. Survivors include a daughter, Peggy Pesek-Taylor of Grand Island; a son, Mark Pesek of Ord; two grandchildren, Destawny Taylor of Lincoln and Anika Powers-Pesek of Brule; her siblings and their spouses, Bo (Bonnie) Conner and Elwin (Lucille) Conner, all of Burwell, Freda (Gene) Augustyn of Ord, Pat (Ron) Watson of Ericson and Juanita Allen of Burwell; and sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Lois Conner and Jack Anderson, both of Arizona. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Eddie; an infant brother, LaVerne Conner; two brothers, Sonny and Edward Conner; and a sister, Linda Anderson.
