Anthony John "Tony" Hottovy was born February 3, 1922, in Brainard, Nebraska, to Anton M. and Gabriella A. (Codr) Hotovy. He passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, December 22, 2016, in David City, Nebraska, at the age of 94 years, 10 months and 19 days. Tony grew up in the Dwight area where he attended and graduated from Assumption High School with the class of 1941. He farmed with his father until he enlisted into the United States Navy on January 19, 1942. During his service in W.W.II Tony received several medals including 1 bronze star in the Asiatic-Pacific campaign, Aircrew Insignia (3 Stars), Good Conduct, Victory Medal, and the Distinguished Flying Cross during which he served in the Bombing Squadron 144th during operations against Japanese forces in the Marshall Islands from May 15 to August 17, 1944. Tony was honorably discharged on December 7, 1945. Upon his return home, Tony resumed farming in the Dwight area. On September 10, 1946, he was united in marriage to Frances Mary Hain at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Bee, to this union the couple was blessed with five children. Tony and Frances farmed and operated a Grade A Dairy for many years. They moved to Dwight in 1983, when Tony decided to slow down. Tony was a life time member of the Dwight Legion Post #110, He was also a member of Brainard Dow Frontier/Dwight Coop of which he served as Secretary. He was a 4-H leader for many years. Tony was a long time member of Assumption Catholic Church where he was a trustee. He also served on the Assumption School Board, Dwight and Aquinas School Board. He was preceded in death by: his parents, Anton and Ella Hotovy; wife, Frances Hottovy on May 8, 2014; three brothers, Alois, Raymond and wife Francis, Ivan Hottovy; two sisters, Georgia and husband Albert Hain, Marie and husband Bob Snyder. Tony is survived by: his five children, Larry and wife Janice Hottovy, Arnold and wife Kathy Hottovy, Anthony C. and Christine Hottovy, Mary Lou Goggins, and Rose Winkelmann and husband Fred; 13 grandchildren, Timothy Hottovy, Shannon Miller, Tyler Hottovy, Scott Hottovy, Heather Hottovy, Angela Cuda, Jennifer Hottovy, Adam Hottovy, Anthony R. Hottovy, Tabatha Janak, Malrie Fuehrer, Brittany Hansen, Melissa Pierce; 11 great-grandchildren; two great great-grandsons; nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends.
