The Nelson Gazette (Nelson, NE), Thursday, October 21, 1937 Theo. Schutte passed away at his home in town (Wednesday of last week) about 9:30 o'clock, of cancer of the stomach. He had been in poor health for several months and confined to his home for several weeks. Mr. Schutte had lived in the community for many years having come here from Lee county (sic), Iowa. He farmed south of town until his retirement to Lawrence with his wife several years ago. He was 76 years old. Besides his wife, he is survived by his two sons, Henry of Bostwick, and Joseph of Lawrence; also by two daughters, Mrs. Leo Szopieray, and Mrs. Albert Kohmetscher of Lawrence, and by several grandchildren. Schutte Obituary Theodore Schutte was born on December 7, 1860 at Marcen, Hanover, Germany and died at his home in Lawrence on October 13, 1937, aged 76 years, 10 months, 6 days. At the age of five years he came to the United States with his parents, the family home being established first at West Point and later near St. Paul, both in Iowa, where he grew to manhood. Mr. Schutte came to Nebraska in 1882 and on February 16, 1884 was married at St. Stephens church (sic) to Miss Elizabeth Schroer, who survives him. With his wife he lived on the farm south of town until retirement to a home in town 16 years ago. Children living are Henry and Joe Schutte, Mrs. Leo Szopieray and Mrs Albert Kohmetscher all of the Lawrence vicinity. Four sons preceeded (sic) him in death: George in infancy, Herman, several years ago, Stephen in the influenza epidemic of 1918 and Lawrence in March, 1920. He is also survived by 26 grand-children, eleven great grandchildren and by the following brothers and sisters, Henry Schutte, West Point, Ia., Herman Schutte, Indianola, Nebr., MRs. Jennie Morefeldt, St. Paul, Ia., Mrs. Henry Bolte and Mrs. Elizabeth Menke, Lawrence. Funeral services were held at Sacred Heart church Saturday morning at 9:00 o'clock conducted by the pastor Rev. Chas. Becker . Burial was made in the Catholic cemetery. Pall bearers were F.J. Schroer, Frank Grabenschroer, H.H. Schroer, Herman Menke, Joe Schroer and Paul Schroer, all nephews of the deceased.
