Bio

Joseph J. "Joe" Hutyra, 74, of Bellmead, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 14, 2006, at his residence. Rosary will be recited at 12 p.m. Thursday, followed by Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary's Church of the Assumption in West with the Rev. Tim Vaverek and the Rev. Ed Karasek as co-celebrants. Military graveside rites conducted by West VFW Post 4819 will follow at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in West. Joe was born near Abbot, Hill County, Texas, to the late Louis and Christine (Cepak) Hutyra, and he attended school in Abbott. On Jan. 26, 1957, he married Doris Petter in Penelope. He was a retired sergeant in the U.S. Army, having served in the Korean War. He retired from General Tire and Rubber Co., after 32 years of service. He was a member of VFW Post 4819 of West and the American Legion of West, St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Bellmead, S.P.J.S.T. Lodge #54 of West, and K.J.T. Lodge #107 of Abbott. He was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Linda Hutyra who died in 1960; his brothers, Ernest Hutyra and George Hutyra ; and a sister, Irene McGee . Survivors include his wife, Doris, of Bellmead; son, Gary Joe Hutyra, of Bellmead; daughter, Judy Elaine Merritt and fiancé, Paul Bohannon, of Waco; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; sisters, Carolyn Gerik and husband, Adolph and Helen Schutza and husband, Lawrence, both of West.
