On May 29, 2016, at 3:01 a.m., Edward Anthony Schwirtlich, 85 years old, of Corpus Christi, Texas, went to his eternal resting place in Heaven. Eddie was born in Violet, Texas, on October 14, 1930. He was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Schwirtlich, his brothers: Isidore Schwirtlich, Joe Schwirtlich Jr., Leo Schwirtlich, Leon Schwirtlich, and Raymond Schwirtlich; and his sisters, Teresa Lawson, Rosina Bockholt and Isabella Ranly. As a young man, Eddie was very athletic and enjoyed sports. He attended Violet School, where he was an excellent student and athlete. He ran track and played baseball at Corpus Christi College Academy and won many awards. During that time, he also farmed the family land and worked at the family business, Schwirtlich Feed and Seed Store. He married the love of his life, Jean Kahanek on June 18, 1950 at Ascension of Our Lord Catholic Church in Moravia, Texas. They met when Eddie's parents brought Jean in as family when she was teaching at the Violet School. They have been married for 65 wonderful years. Eddie continued his passion for sports with his children; he coached his boys in baseball and was a Scout Leader. He is remembered for his noble attitude and sportsmanship. He always supported their grandkids at all the different sporting events. Eddie and Jean never missed any home games. Eddie was a faithful and devout man, teaching not only through words but actions throughout his 85 years. He would read his little black prayer book or his Bible every morning and finished the day praying the Rosary with his wife before going to bed. He was a great man of morals and truly loved God and his family. Eddie lived his life being the best example of a loving husband and father. He will be remembered with love forever and for always. The Rosary will be recited on Thursday, June 2, 2016 at 7:00 P.M. in the Sawyer-George Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, June 3, 2016 at 10:00 A.M. at St. Peter, Prince of the Apostles Catholic Church with Rev. Emilio Jimenez as celebrant. Interment will follow in the St. Anthony's Catholic Cemetery in Violet. Funeral services entrusted to Sawyer-George Funeral Home, Inc., 12497 Leopard Street, Corpus Christi, Texas 78410.
