Bio

Joseph is the husband of Susan Francis Burke, Married in Flatonia, TX in 1879. At this point, there is no death certificate and no burial record. The family story of his death is that the 1900 Hurricane that devastated Galveston, TX also deluged Wharton. The sewer from the outhouse overflowed and leaked into the drinking water. Joseph and his son Jeff became deathly ill, both dying in 1901. It is supposed that both are buried in Wharton City Cemetery, but no memorial markers have been found there. ~Chris Thomasson, 2016
