Bio

Katherine "Kate" (White) Wharton was born March 26, 1870 and is the daughter of Frank and Joanna Elizabeth (Miller) White. She died on January 12, 1939 in Rutherford County, Tennessee. Kate married on July 5, 1894 Arthur Dickson Wharton in Rutherford County, Tennessee. Seven children were born to this union: Frank White Wharton, Arthur Dickerson Wharton, Jr., Kathrene Wharton, Felix Miller Wharton, Harvey Kendrick Wharton, Joe Miller Wharton, and Walter Houston Wharton. Funeral services for Mrs. Kate White Wharton, who died at 5:45 p.m. Thursday at the home of her sister, Mrs. W. O. Partee on East College Street will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Central Church of Christ by Dr. Walter White. Mrs. Wharton has been ill for a long time at her sister's home. Born in Murfreesboro, the daughter of Frank and Joanna Miller White, Mrs. Wharton was educated at Old Soule College. She was married in 1894 to the late Arthur D. Wharton, and lived for a time in Dallas, Texas and in Nashville. Survivors are a daughter, Mrs. Elliott Jones of Rome, Ga., five sons, Frank White, and Joe and Harvey Wharton of Birmingham; two sisters, Mrs. Partee and Miss Frankie White of this city, and nine grandchildren. Burial will be in Evergreen cemetery under directon of Woodfin-Moore. Pallbears will be Charles B. Ragland, G. W. Edwards, Al Lytle Partee, James Ridley, Lawrence Freeman, Cameron Faircloth, McCullough Sikes, and Jesse Huggins. Source: DNJ Jan 13, 1949.
