TEXAS Pvt 358th Inf 90 Div The Wellington Leader March 23, 1933 MONTGOMERY IS BURIED MARCH 17 AT PLYMOUTH First Military Funeral Held In Plymouth is for W.L. Montgomery Funeral services for W.L. Montgomery, 37, were held Friday, March 17, 1933, from the Plymouth Church with Rev. Dave Morris officiating. Mr. Montgomery was born in Ellis County, Texas, October 10, 1895, and died at Hines, Illinois, March 13, 1933. He had been ill eleven months prior to his death. The illness followed an injury received in his leg while working. He underwent several operations and finally went to the Hines Veteran Hospital at Hines, Illinois. He was married to Miss Zella Sparkman of Plymouth, February 22, 1918 and was the father of five daughters, all are still living. While still a young man, he was converted and joined the Baptist Church. Services were conducted by Rev. D.M. Morris of Wellington and Miss Julia Slough led the song service, which included a duet, "Beautiful Isle of Somewhere," by Miss Slough and Mrs. Clyde Steelman. The Frank King Post of American Legion, Wellington, conducted the military honors - and this was the first military funeral to ever be conducted in the Plymouth cemetery. Interment was made by the Goodson Funeral Home in the Plymouth cemetery as one of the largest funerals ever held there. Mr. Montgomery is survived by his wife Mrs. Zella Sparkman Montgomery; five daughters, Dorothy B., Billye Muriel, Ophelia, Bettye Jane, and Zella Fay, his mother, Mrs. L.M. Montgomery; three sisters, Mrs. T. Cooper of Lelia, Mrs. Hattie Thompson, and Mrs. Exie Blackman of Plymouth; three brothers, Jim Montgomery of Dallas; Albert and J.M. Montgomery, both of Plymouth. Also twelve nieces and eleven nephews. Pallbearers were Oscar Payne, Cecil Brown. G.W. DeBord, Walter Fritts, Dick Wiles, and John Daffron. Honorary Pallbearers: Leroy Thompson, Luther Thompson, Jack Montgomery, Chester Gardner, R.L. Wyatt, Coy Diale. Flower Girls: Dorothy Montgomery, Jeanette Montgomery, Mildred Lowe, Georgia DeBord, Thelma Carrell, and Mildred Ballow. Angie Mitchell Martin
