Married Sep 16 1944 Tisbury, ENG, Eileen Coombs -------------------------------------------- Military Rites Held For Leslie Freeman Rev. Richard Atherton officiated at funeral services Tuesday, 2 pm at the Ord Methodist Church for Leslie James Freeman who died at Ord Hospital Saturday after a lingering illness. He was 40 years old. Mrs. Hal Mason, soloist, was accompanied by Mrs. Orin Kellison. Pallbearers were Ed Mason, Ellis Douthit, Donald Long, Alfred Daudt, Al Turek and William Wozniak. Military rites were conducted at the Ord City cemetery by the Ord post of Veterans of Foreign Wars. Leslie Freeman, more commonly known as Slim or Tex, was born May 18, 1922 in Missouri to Clarence and Jonny Freeman. At the age of 11 he moved to Parma, Idaho where he lived until he joined the army in 1943. He served in England, France, and Germany. While stationed in England he married Eileen Coombes at Tisbury, Sept. 16, 1944. On Sept. 16, 1947 Leslie was honorably discharged from the army and spent the next year in Missouri, Idaho and Nebraska. He moved his family to Ord in the spring of 1949 and worked for the state highway department for the next 13 ½ years until his death. Survivors are: his wife, Eileen; a son, Leslie Gordon, at home; parents, Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Freeman of Dos Palos, Calif.; brothers – Arnold, Junior C., Amos and Cecil all of Dos Palos, Eugene of Monroe, Ore., Robert and Lowell of Caldwell, Idaho and Wayne of Parma; sisters – Dolly Holmes, Lois Holmes, Opal Parker, Connie Nash and Janice Nash of Dos Palos and Alma Maggard of Parma.
