Agnes E. Kuipers, the daughter of Gerrit and Gertrude Kuipers, was born at Hull, Iowa on August 5, 1915. Following her birth, the family moved to Rock Valley where Agnes received her education. At the age of 15 her family moved back to Hull. On March 27, 1941, she was united in marriage to Steve Steenhoven of Boyden and to this union one daughter was born. Following their marriage they moved to Texas where they lived until a train accident took the life of her husband and daughter, Arlene. Agnes then returned to Hull. On November 3, 1955, Agnes was united in marriage to Dick DeVries at Matlock, Iowa. They farmed near Sanborn following their marriage and later moved to the town of Sanborn in February of 1968. She died at Marian Health Center at Sioux City, Iowa on December 25, 1990. She is survived by two daughters: Mrs. Jerry (Mary) Toms of Lytton, la. and Mrs. John (Susan) Tignor of Grand Island, Neb.; six grandchildren, and one brother, William Kuiper of Hull. She was preceded in death by her parents, two husbands, one daughter, two sisters and one brother. Agnes was a member of the First Reformed Church of Sanborn and was active in the R.C.W. Guild and had been a Sunday School teacher. She also participated in many community activities. Funeral services were held December 28 at the First Reformed Church of Sanborn with Rev. Gerald Osland officiating. Casket bearers were Clarence Krikke, Gradus Kuipers, Glen Kuipers, Marvin Hulstein, William Hulstein and Richard Hulstein. Burial was in Roseland Cemetery, Sanborn with the Sanborn Funeral Home in charge. Sanborn Pioneer 3 Jan 1991
